Manage a supervised payments profile

Supervised payment profiles are for kids under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) who have a supervised Google Account managed by their parent through Family Link. When payment-related information is saved to a child’s Google Account, a payments profile is created.

A Google payments profile stores info such as:

  • The name and address of the user that the payments profile belongs to.
  • Credit cards, debit cards, and other payment methods which have been used to buy through Google in the past.
  • Other addresses which have been added across Google services, like autofill on Chrome.

Payments profile settings

Your child’s payments profile contains the following settings:

Manage a payments profile

Your child can manage some tasks in their payments profile, but may need your help for other tasks. If they need your help, they'll be notified in their profile.

The following tasks can be completed in a payments profile:

  • Update a card’s expiration date and address
  • Verify a card
  • Remove a card
  • Fix a payment method

Close a payments profile

When a payments profile is closed:

  • Your child still has access to their Google Account, but payment methods and related information (like a card billing address) are no longer available to use with Google.
  • You can create a new payments profile for your child by adding a new payment method (like a credit card) to their Google Account.

What happens when the child turns age of consent

Important: The child’s age of consent may vary by country. Learn more about your country’s age requirements.

When your child turns 13 (or the applicable age in your country), they can choose to:

  • Take no action and continue their current parental supervision.
  • Update their Google Account and continue their current parental supervision.
  • Update their Google Account and stop parental supervision.

You and your child will receive reminder emails to notify you that your child can update their Google Account and stop parental supervision. You'll receive these emails leading up to your child’s birthday that marks the age of consent, including:

  • 30 days prior
  • 7 days prior
  • On their birthday

If they decide to update their Google Account, you'll receive another email.

Learn how Google processes your child’s data by reading the Google Payments privacy guide for children.

What happens when parental supervision stops

Your child will be able to:

  • Add payment cards to Google Wallet or Google Pay on their own and continue to use existing payment methods.
  • Pay on apps and websites with the Google Pay button.
  • Autofill payment info in Chrome to checkout faster online.
  • Pay across Google on Google Play Store, YouTube, and more.

Tip: For added security, any payment method added before your child turns 13 (or the applicable age in your country) that they continue to use after they update their account, will require a one-time CVV code confirmation before it can be used for transactions online, in-app, or across Google.
